Thanks to high taxation, Brazilians pay the highest price for any Apple (AAPL) product than every other consumer on earth. The average price for an Apple device in Brazil is R$2,387.79, or $1,348. Czech Republic consumers pay an average of $1,246 and Thailand consumers pay an average of $1,138. Brazil pays an average of 28% for Apple products than any other consumer in the world shopping at an Apple Store. Hong Kong is one of the cheapest, with an average price of $785.
The reasons for Brazil leading the chart are taxation and import fees. First, there is this transaction tax called ICMS, which every importer needs to pay, after which comes a 9% social security tax, followed by industrial production taxes. Of course, import duties are imposed as well. And after all that trouble comes the problem with shipping these Apple products to the major cities, which takes at least a few hours by truck.
